CE marking: from the applicable directive to the mark on the product
The CE mark confirms that a product complies with EU harmonisation legislation such as EMC, LVD, RoHS or Toy Safety. Manufacturers complete the conformity assessment, compile a technical file and issue a Declaration of Conformity. Incorrect or missing CE marking leads to customs detentions and enforcement actions.
Legal framework
Which directives apply depends on the product. Electrical equipment typically falls under EMC and LVD, electronics under RoHS, toys under the Toy Safety Directive. Non-EU manufacturers additionally need an Authorized Representative named on the Declaration of Conformity.
