EU compliance for electronics and electrical equipment

Most electrical products need CE marking under the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS rules, and a business in the EU that holds your documents. We take that role within the agreed scope and mandate. With Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth or another radio function, the Radio Equipment Directive takes the place of the Low Voltage and EMC rules.

Electronics: frequently asked questions

Do I need an EU Authorized Representative to sell electronics in the EU?

You need a business in the EU that holds your declaration of conformity and cooperates with authorities: an importer, an authorized representative or a fulfilment service provider. Without an EU importer, an authorized representative is the usual route.

Is CE marking for electronics a self-declaration?

For the LVD, EMC and RoHS, yes: internal production control without a notified body. You still need a technical file, test evidence and a signed declaration of conformity.

Do I need WEEE registration in every EU country?

In every EU country where you place equipment on the market, because registration is national. Distance sellers from another EU country appoint an authorized representative there, and Germany requires one from every producer without a German establishment.

Do laptops need USB-C in the EU?

Yes, if the laptop has a radio function such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and is charged by cable. Laptops placed on the market since 28 April 2026 need a USB-C charging port, like phones, tablets and cameras since 28 December 2024.

Who registers my product in EPREL?

The supplier: the EU manufacturer, the importer or the authorized representative, before the first unit is placed on the market.
